What is pain management for back pain?
There are many causes of back pain and no two patients experience the same type of pain. Therefore, pain management for back pain will look different from one patient to the next. Before you can receive any treatment for back pain, you should first be examined by a pain specialist who will assess your mobility. During a consultation, you will be asked to sit, stand, walk, and lift your legs and asked questions about your ability to function daily with your pain. You will be asked about when the pain forces you to stop working or if you start to experience muscle spasms. This assessment is intended to gauge where your pain is located and your current ability to manage your pain on your own and attempt to rule out anything serious.
Your doctor might require you to receive further testing, such as x-rays, MRI or CT scans, blood tests, bone scans, or nerve studies to help discover the root of your back pain.
